NASA To Publish EmDrive Research In Peer Reviewed Journal Proving It Works

An “impossible” EmDrive thruster that breaks the laws of physics could one day carry astronauts to Mars in 10 days at “warp speed” thanks to research being published soon.

The EmDrive, the brainchild of Roger Sawyer, uses no fuel and could potentially propel a spaceship to Mars in 10 weeks and reach Alpha Centauri in 100 years.

When Sawyer first came out with the idea for the EmDrive in 1999 the mainstream scientific community largely ignored him because his engine appeared to break the laws of physics.

Now, NASA’s Eaglework’s lab along with four other laboratories are conducting research into the theory. The peer-reviewed journal AIAA Journal of Propulsion and Power agreed to publish their research this week.

Astronomers Spot New Asteroid Mere Hours Before It Zips Past Earth

A previously undiscovered space rock just narrowly missed hitting the Earth as it zoomed by mere hours after astronomers spotted it for the very first time. Saturday night, a 150-foot-long asteroid dubbed 2016 QA2, was spotted approaching Earth, and Sunday morning, it zoomed harmlessly by our planet at less than one-quarter of the distance to the moon.

Although NASA has been tracking thousands of near Earth asteroids to make sure they don’t strike the planet, they haven’t found them all.

This one was roughly twice the size of the asteroid that exploded over Russia in 2013. The asteroid 2016 QA2 wouldn’t have ended civilization if it had hit, but it would have caused significant damage.

Earth Like World Spotted In Alpha Centauri System

After decades of searching the cosmos for possible Earth-like planets, astronomers have now confirmed the existence of a possible habitable world orbiting the star nearest to us in the universe.

The planet is called Proxima b and it orbits Proxima Centauri, a red dwarf star in the Alpha Centauri system about 4.2 light years away.

If life does exist on its surface it is probably very different from that on Earth because its star is very dim.

Scientists still aren’t sure if the planet has an atmosphere, but they have confirmed it’s a rocky Earth like planet that has the possibility of having water on its surface.

Is It Possible To Explore Newly Discovered Earth Like World?

Astronomers have discovered a possible Earth like world called Proxima b in the Alpha Centauri system and Stephen Hawking’s Starshot probes may go fast enough to cover the distance, but they might not survive the journey.

The probes are wafer thin and come equipped with a light sail that can catch a light beam shot from Earth to reach one fifth the speed of light.

The problem is that when you travel that fast even a speck of dust can be a problem. Traveling through gas is easier on the probe than dust; a large speck of dust could destroy the whole thing, but even if that doesn’t happen scientists expect 30 percent of the nanocraft to be destroyed.

For Sale: One International Space Station, NASA Seeks Commercial Buyer

NASA astronauts are going for a walk in space this week to install a new parking spot on the International Space Station, but in just a few years the agency plans to abandon the station.

As more commercial operators enter low Earth orbit the space agency is backing away from the ISS and diverting federal funds to its Journey to Mars planned for the 2030’s.

No word on who will be buying the space station, but the obvious choices would be SpaceX and Boeing although Elon Musk seems more intent on colonizing Mars.

Video Showing Fake Human Sacrifice On CERN Property Prompts Security Investigation

Researchers working on the Large Hadron Collider have been caught on video acting out a fake ceremony involving human sacrifice on the grounds of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

The video shows people in black robes walking around a Hindu statue of Shiva the Destroyer as a woman kneels down and is stabbed.

It’s fake, but the fact that it was filmed on the same property as the Hadron Collider has CERN officials worried about security.

The video has strong language and can be seen here.

The Police Standoff No One Is Talking About: Native Americans In North Dakota Face Down Cops

For about a week, hundreds of Native Americans have been facing down police in North Dakota in an attempt to halt construction of a pipeline slated to run through land they consider sacred.

Although protests against the pipeline began months ago tensions ratcheted up last week when the company decided to begin construction ahead of a court date later this month.

The pipeline would run more than 1,100 miles through land the Native Americans consider sacred as well as under 209 rivers and lakes.

If there was a breach in the pipeline, the drinking water of millions of Americans could be affected.

Mars Space Station Could Make It Easier For NASA To Colonize Red Planet

NASA continues to build toward a manned mission to Mars and a new plan to put a space station in orbit above the red planet could help the agency put astronaut boots on the ground.

Using the Orion crew capsule and Space Launch System (SLS) already under construction, NASA could put six astronauts into orbit over Mars for a year.

While they were there, the astronauts would conduct experiments using the Mars rovers in real time, which would improve scientific discoveries absent the 20 minute time delay NASA researchers work under.

With additional Orion capsules they could even visit the two tiny Martian moon and do some exploring of their own.

Eight Wildfires Burning Through California Force 100,000 From Their Homes

An out of control California wildfire raging near Los Angeles has sparked fire tornadoes that have scorched 30,000 acres and forced 82,000 people to flee their homes and firefighters say the situation will get worse.

There are at least seven other wildfires blazing their way through California including the Sobranes fire in Monterey County that has been burning since July 22.

Scientists say California hasn’t been this dry for 500 years and they fear summer fires and the accompanying smoke may be the new normal for the state.

Scientists Spot Possible Habitable World Orbiting Nearby Star

European scientists have discovered a batch of alien worlds out in deep space that could support extra terrestrial life including one orbiting the star closest to our sun.

Astronomers in Europe say they’ve spotted the unnamed planet orbiting Proxima Centauri, which is only 4.25 light years away.

Using Stephen Hawking’s Starshot Breakthrough project, which uses lasers to accelerate wafer thin nanocraft to 30 percent the speed of light, an Earth spacecraft could be there in 15 years.
