Anti-Seizure Cannabis Research Stifled By Nation’s Drug Laws

A cannabis oil extract has been proven to prevent seizures in epilepsy patients, but federal drug laws stifle needed research.

Marijuana is still considered a Schedule 1 drug by the federal government which is hindering important research and clinical trials badly needed by epilepsy patients.

The ingredient cannabidiol has been shown to prevent seizures and doesn’t contain any chemicals that get users high. So far the drug is only available to patients who receive compassionate waivers.

Large scale drug trials are needed to bring relief to epilepsy patients, but the nation’s drug laws much change first.
