A Chilean woman unknowingly carried a 4.4 pound stone fetus in her abdomen for 50 years until doctors discovered it when they X-rayed her hips after a fall.
The woman was admitted to the hospital after suffering injuries and the subsequent X-ray revealed the stone fetus that had calcified outside her womb. The medical term is called a “lithopedian” and it can happen when a fetus grows outside the uterus.
In medical history doctors have discovered the phenomenon 330 times.
